The source of the Ruhr

At 667 m above sea level begins what flows 219 km further into the Rhine and gives its name to an entire conurbation: the Ruhr. Just 3 km from Winterberg, the Ruhr springs as a small rivulet in a tranquil forest on the north-eastern slope of the Ruhrkopf.

Below the spring, a roundel with a memorial stone invites visitors and hikers to take a break. Not only does the Rothaarsteig lead past the Ruhrquelle, it is also the start or finish of the Ruhrtal cycle path - depending on whether you cycle down or up it.

Take a moment to explore and linger at the source of the Ruhr. Our cosy Ruhrquellenhütte is close by and we look forward to welcoming you after a trip to the source of the Ruhr.

If you come by car, you can park it for free on our large parking lot.

You're in for a treat!

No matter whether you are drifting through the forest on our mountain carts, your children are romping on our adventure playground or you are crowning your Jägermeister at one of our group events - there is a lot to experience at the Ruhrquellenhütte. Drop by, we look forward to seeing you!
